Cycling Socks Guide
A good cycling sock disappears on the bike. A poor one makes itself known by the second hour. This is what we look for when we design our socks in London and make them in Italy, and what we would look for if we were buying.
Fabric
Choose a technical polyamide and elastane blend over cotton. Cotton holds sweat, loses its shape and rubs. A technical yarn moves moisture away from the skin, dries quickly and keeps its fit wash after wash.
Our socks are made from Q-Skin® polyamide, with open mesh panels across the top of the foot so air keeps moving inside the shoe, on the road or on the trainer.
Fit
A cycling sock should sit close to the foot with no slack: no fold under the arch, no gathering at the toe. Loose fabric inside a stiff cycling shoe is where hot spots and blisters begin.
Choose by shoe size. Our socks come in three sizes, EU 35–38, 39–42 and 43–46. See the size chart for the full conversion.
Cuff and length
An 18cm cuff is the length most road riders wear: high enough to sit cleanly above the ankle and below the calf, in proportion with bib shorts. The cuff should hold its position for the whole ride without digging in. Ours is compressive, so it stays where you put it.
Thickness
Cycling shoes are close-fitting, so a thin, low-profile sock works best. Look for reinforcement where socks wear first, at the toe and heel, rather than padding throughout. Extra bulk changes how your shoe fits and gives the foot room to move.
Choosing by riding
Everyday road riding. A clean, dependable sock you can reach for every ride. Our Permanent White and Permanent Black socks carry no logo on the back, only the sock.
Racing and fast group rides. At speed, the lower leg is one of the places drag builds up. Our Aero socks are engineered to cut drag where it costs you most.
Indoor training. With no air moving over the body, breathability matters most. Choose a light, quick-drying sock, and keep a fresh pair for every session.
White or black
White is the classic road choice and the hardest to keep looking right. Permanent White is made to stay bright through wet, dirty rides and repeated washing. Read how we made the Permanent White. Black asks for less upkeep and suits winter riding and darker kit.
How many pairs
If you ride several times a week, a rotation of three pairs means a fresh pair is always ready. Our 3-packs give you three pairs of the same sock for less per pair.
Care
If your socks have come back muddy, soak them in cold water first. Machine wash at 30°C and lay flat to dry. Skip fabric softener, which coats technical fibres and slows how quickly they dry.
